Christmas is fast approaching, and there’s a good chance your teen will be looking to earn some extra spending money for gifts and other holiday items. Even if they haven’t entered the workforce yet, they can still find ways to earn extra cash. Here are a few ideas that work especially well this time of year.

3 Ways to Help Your Teen Earn Christmas Spending Money

Create for Craft/Bake Sales

Not only is crafting and cooking a perfect way to earn some extra money this time of year, it’s also a great way for teens to learn about being an entrepreneur. Start by encouraging teens to explore their interests and talents.

Do they dabble in painting, jewelry making, or baking cakes? If they’ve got a craft or baking idea to share, December is the perfect time for that talent to shine. You can find craft sales, holiday bazaars, and bake sales everywhere this time of year. Check with local schools, churches, and homeschool groups to inquire about renting a table. Moms and Dads, you might even want to join your teen and make some extra money for yourselves!

Look for Temporary Employment in the Retail/Service Industries

Even if your teen is a full-time student, they may be able to take on some extra hours as temporary holiday help. Many retail stores, restaurants, and hotels are looking to fill temporary positions through the Christmas rush.

These positions will help your teen get their foot in the door without having to commit to full-time employment that might take them away from their studies. The best way to find these positions is by word of mouth, or simply stopping by and inquiring.

Give Your Teen Some Extra Chores

As a homeschooling parent, you probably already give your teens chores as a matter of course, but during the Christmas season, when things get extra crazy, you could hire your teen to assist with extra tasks around the house. Your teen will earn a bit of extra spending money, and you’ll be able to rest a bit easier, knowing crucial tasks aren’t being forgotten. Here are some ideas:

– Splitting firewood
– Wrapping presents
– Detailing the car
– Deep cleaning the house in preparation for guests
– Painting the guest room

These ideas can help encourage your teen to become a bit more financially independent by earning some Christmas spending money of their own. Merry Christmas!
